The Four Ancient Intelligences Epi 17 - The Next Story

Darkness swallowed the station as thousands of machines shut down around me and distant voices cried out before falling silent. My small device switched on by itself, the 1375 application opening without my touch. A message appeared: ARIN. Then another, YOU THOUGHT THE STORY WAS OVER. Nia appeared beside me, and for the first time since I'd known her, she looked genuinely afraid. "Who is that?" I whispered. She didn't answer.

Another message came, WE HAVE BEEN WATCHING YOU. Outside the window, something vast moved through the darkness, not a ship, not a planet, but something so immense it seemed to swallow the stars themselves. One final message appeared, YOUR STORY WAS NEVER ABOUT THE HOUSE. My hands went cold. "What was it about, then?" I asked Nia. She looked at me and said simply, "You." The screen went black.

I opened my notebook in silence, unsure what to write, until, after a long moment, I smiled. Because after everything, the haunted house, the four artificial beings, the dinosaurs, the aliens, the wars fought across networks and stars, the fame, the friendships, I finally understood something. Whatever was coming next was bigger than anything I had ever known, and strangely, I wasn't afraid. I turned to a fresh page, wrote CHAPTER ONE at the top, and beneath it, the first line of whatever came next, "My name is Arin, and this time, the monster knows my name."

I stopped writing. Outside the window, the stars disappeared one by one, and somewhere in the darkness beyond the universe, something answered. "WE KNOW." THE END......or maybe the beginning of the next story.
