The Internet Business Journey Epi 07 - Using Social Media for Growth
Building an online business is not only about creating a product or service. People also need a way to discover it.
Social media has made that discovery possible without requiring a large advertising budget. Platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X can help a small business reach potential customers, build an audience, and establish credibility over time.
The key is to stop treating social media as simply a place to post advertisements.
People follow accounts because they want something useful, interesting, entertaining, or informative. A business can use this attention by sharing content that demonstrates its knowledge, explains its products, answers common questions, or gives people a reason to keep following.
For example, a designer can share design tips and project transformations. A freelancer can explain how they solve common client problems. A small store can demonstrate its products rather than simply displaying them. A creator can share the process behind their work.
Consistency matters, but consistency does not mean posting constantly without a purpose.
A better approach is to choose a few relevant platforms, understand the audience on each one, and create content that fits the platform. Short videos, educational posts, behind-the-scenes content, customer experiences, tutorials, and useful insights can all become part of a content strategy.
Social media can also provide valuable feedback. Comments, questions, shares, and conversations reveal what people care about. That information can help improve products, services, and future content.
Growth rarely happens overnight.
An account may begin with a handful of followers and slowly develop into a community. The objective is not simply to collect numbers, but to build attention, trust, and relationships with people who may eventually become customers.
Used properly, social media becomes more than a promotional tool.
It becomes a bridge between what you create and the people who need it.
