The Internet Business Journey Epi 20 - Discover Your Digital Skill
In the digital economy, skills can become valuable assets.
You don't necessarily need to begin with a business idea, a large investment, or a detailed five-year plan. Sometimes the better starting point is discovering what you can learn to do well.
Digital skills come in many forms. Writing, video editing, graphic design, programming, data analysis, digital marketing, website development, research, online teaching, content creation, and many other abilities can be useful to individuals and businesses.
The challenge is choosing a skill that fits both your interests and the needs of the market.
Start by looking at what naturally holds your attention. What topics do you enjoy learning about? What activities can you spend hours practicing? What problems do people frequently ask you to help with?
Then look beyond interest and consider usefulness.
A skill becomes commercially valuable when it can help someone save time, solve a problem, make money, communicate better, create something, or achieve a specific goal.
You don't need to master a skill before exploring its potential.
Choose one area and begin learning. Use free resources, online courses, tutorials, communities, and practical projects. Most importantly, practice by creating real things rather than only consuming information.
Your first projects will probably reveal weaknesses.
That is useful.
Each mistake shows you what to learn next. Each completed project becomes evidence of your progress. Eventually, those projects can become a portfolio that demonstrates what you are capable of doing.
You may also discover that one skill naturally leads to another. Writing can lead to content marketing. Video editing can lead to social media production. Programming can lead to website development. Data skills can lead to analytics and automation.
A digital skill can therefore become more than something you know.
It can become something you use to create value, provide a service, build a product, or develop an online career.
The first step is simply to discover what you can learn—and then start practicing it.
